In two weeks, get ready to attend the 10th Annual “What Women Want” Expo at the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum. On June 22, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., you can expect to find numerous vendors, shopping opportunities, discounts, noteworthy speakers, and more at this fun annual event! To get the best information for our readers, The Tally Wire spoke with George Teachman, the Marketing and Promotions Director for Cumulus Media Tallahassee which is the home to the two local radio stations that are hosting the expo.
On this milestone anniversary, Teachman looked back on how the “What Women Want” Expo came to be. Dot Ealy, the Market Manager and Vice President of Cumulus Media Tallahassee, established this event in 2009 with women in the area in mind. “We wanted to hold an annual event that would celebrate women and empower women, as well as feature the amazing business women in our community,” Teachman explained. “We also wanted to put on something great that everyone could enjoy and would return to each year.” Teachman is confident that this event has accomplished this and more.
Compared to its earlier years, the “What Women Want” Expo has expanded incredibly. “One major change since the start is that [before], the expo would be held in one building at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum, and would only have around 50 vendors. Now, due to the demand of the event and the high number of attendees, we are now able to be in two buildings and house over 100 vendors!” In most recent years, the event has attracted over 100 vendors and 4,000 attendees with its vendors, speakers, and vibrant atmosphere.
This year, attendees can expect many of the vendors and speakers they know and love from previous years, as well as some new additions. “This year, Jane Marks will be returning with her crew doing zumba, and Dr. Michelle Mitcham, the new publisher of the Tallahassee Woman Magazine, will take to the stage with a panel discussion,” says Teachman.
A new musical performance group is Brett Wellman and the Stone Cold Blues Band, while LaRae, an up-and-coming artist out of Atlanta, will be returning to the event. Teachman also says the event has a wider variety of vendors than ever before: “the variety is endless, and with the different vendors, going from booth to booth won’t feel so similar to each other.” This year they also have more kid-friendly vendors consisting of activities like free face-painting, balloon art, and bounce houses, so mothers can have more time to enjoy themselves at the event.
Ultimately, the 10th Annual “What Women Want” Expo is one you’ll never forget. “The biggest thing we want people to know is this year we really went all-out in order to commemorate our 10th year,” Teachman says.
With so many new features to the expo, women are sure to enjoy the wonderful shopping and speaker experiences provided by the numerous sponsors of the event. Admission is free, and the first 100 people to arrive at 10 a.m. will receive a special “What Women Want” tote bag that includes an event t-shirt and several goodies from a variety of event sponsors and vendors. Make sure to mark your calendar for June 22 and make time to relax at the “What Women Want” Expo!
