Next week, from January 19, 2020 to January 26, 2020, Tallahassee foodies have the opportunity to taste all the tastiness that locally-grown food offers here in town during this year’s Seven Days of Local Delights. The Seven Days of Local Delights event, which is hosted by the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance, is an annual, week-long, fun and food filled event that features local farmers and food.

Full of workshops, cooking classes, gardening demonstration activities, and more throughout the week, Seven Days of Local Delights also partners with locally-owned restaurants to feature dishes and meals made with locally-grown produce at their restaurants during the event. Many of the week’s events are free, some ask for a small donation, and a couple of them require tickets to attend.

To kick off the week, a food swap will be held at Anytime Fitness on Monday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. On Wednesday, a demonstration on how to create edible container gardens will be given at Native Nurseries at 10:00 a.m. On Thursday, beginning at 6:00 p.m., a session on raised bed gardening will be held at FAMU Teleconference Center. Friday night, beginning at 6:00 p.m., a farm-to-table cooking class will be held at KitchenAble Cooking School. On Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Tallahassee Nurseries, a talk about organic farming in the panhandle will be given. That morning, there will also be a hands-on gardening experience at the Frenchtown Heritage Hub, starting at 12:00 p.m.

To conclude the week, a special fundraising brunch held at Kool Beanz Cafe will take place and will highlight some of the locally-sourced, fresh ingredients that Tallahassee and surrounding communities have to offer. A silent auction will also be held at the lunch, and all proceeds will go to the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance.

At the moment, Cypress Restaurant, Grove Market Café, Il Lusso, Kool Beanz Cafe, Sage: A Restaurant, Sweet Pea Cafe, Vertigo Burgers & Fries, The Hawthorn Bistro & Bakery, and Liberty Bar are participating to give special deals on their meals. It is anticipated that more restaurants will be participating as well.

Tallahassee isn’t the only food scene that will be a part of Seven Days of Local Delights. In Thomasville, Liam’s Restaurant and Sweet Grass Dairy Cheese Shop will also be a part of the week, as will Quincy’s Damfino’s Cafe & Market, and Monticello’s Tupelo’s Bakery & Cafe.
