TALLAHASSEE, Fla — On October 28, 2020, around the 10:00 p.m. hour, a Tallahassee Police Department vehicle hit Serenity Coffee and Kava Bar, located at 915 Railroad Ave near the Florida State University campus.
The Tallahassee Police Department stated on Twitter that a Honda Civic was traveling west on All Saints Street toward Railroad Avenue, and came to a complete stop. The driver continued forward into the intersection and pulled out in front of a marked TPD patrol vehicle that was traveling north on Railroad Avenue in response to a call. The TPD patrol vehicle struck the Honda Civic, then hit the side of the Serenity Coffee and Kava Bar building.
In a video posted on Twitter by Ally Chester, who works at Serenity, captioned, “So a cop just drove through where I work. 2020 is a whole new breed of a year. #Because2020,” a TPD vehicle can be seen in front of a hole at the right side edge of the building. Additionally, structure debris can be seen inside the building.
Chester, who was off from work that day and was patronizing the shop, was inside of the building when the vehicle crashed into it. Another vehicle was damaged during the crash, and both vehicles were towed from the site, totaled. No injuries were reported.
Currently, the investigation is still active. Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken to a TPD office is asked to please contact the department with any information.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Serenity will be closed for today. We thank you for your patience and continued support,” the coffee and kava bar said on their Instagram story. The shop will remain closed over the weekend as they work to repair the building.
In terms of how the community may support Serenity, Chester says, “All we can ask is that our community comes back and supports us once we open again. We are a local business and it’s the safest, most loving space I have found in Tallahassee.”
The Tally Wire has reached out to Serenity Coffee and Kava Bar and is waiting to hear back for more information.
