City of Tallahassee offering semester-long internships for college students

TALLAHASSEE, Fla — The City of Tallahassee is offering semester-long internships for college students this coming spring. The City of Tallahassee Internship Program offers both paid and unpaid internships to “exceptionally high-performing” students in order for them to gain city government experience and foster professional relationships. Each week, students will work a minimum of 20 hours in their respective department

Ideal candidates are upper-level college students who are “motivated to advance in their area of study and are looking to gain experience in their field.”

The following City departments are offering internships:

  • City Commissioners Office
  • Diversity & Inclusion
  • Human Resources and Workforce Development
  • Office of the Mayor
  • StarMetro
  • Blueprint
  • Underground Utilities & Public Infrastructure -Traffic Engineering division
  • Underground Utilities & Public Infrastructure- Civil Engineering division
  • Underground Utilities & Public Infrastructure- Administration
  • Real Estate
  • Planning Administration
  • Sustainability and Community Preservation
  • Fleet Management
  • Grants Management
  • Procurement
  • Office of Economic Vitality
  • Downtown Improvement Authority

Applicants are required to submit an application, resume, three letters of recommendation, an unofficial college transcript. Additionally, those interested must hold a 2.8 GPA at minimum, have completed at least one semester of college-level coursework, and be currently enrolled as a post-secondary education program.

By participating in an internship with the City, students gain access to “worthwhile experiences, connections, and opportunities to build and refine their skills.”
